Im looking to start my own internet marketing business. I want to do something with affiliate marketing but not sure exactly where to start or if thats even something I should start with.

First you need to pick a niche. Start with something you are familiar with and would like to write about.
Make a website related to your niche and post helpful content on it. Have the pages optimized for keywords you are able to rank for in the search engines.
Add affiliate links to products related to your niche.
Write articles and post them in article directories with a link to your website to get backlinks and traffic.
That’s the summary. You should get training from successful internet marketers so you avoid mistakes and can get going more quickly.

There are a lot of people out there who will try to sell you their “system” and you can waste a lot of money on a program that you really don’t need. It’s really not that difficult to get started for free and learn as you go. Here are some simple steps to get started for free!
1. You want to have a website or webpage with a topic or focus of something that you are interested in and know something about or are willing to do some research to learn more about it. I would suggest starting with a free blog or Squidoo page. The important thing is to write good interesting original content, not just publish a page with a bunch of random spammy links.
2. After you have created a page with interesting original content and photos about your topic, apply to affiliate programs and look for companies that have products that fit in with the topic of your pages.
3. Here are some affiliate programs that I like:
Zazzle – you can create and design your own online store of products by downloading your favorite photos and then post a few products related to your topic or in some cases perhaps a link to your store on your website: http://www.zazzle.com/vickisims?rf=238110270365818601

There are numerous other free affiliate marketing programs, but with some you must earn $ 50 in commissions before you are paid so it is better to start off using one or two company with lots of different advertisers that have products that fit your topic to be able to reach the payment threshold faster. Then as you create more pages and learn how to generate traffic to them, you can expand to additional programs.
4. After you’ve created a page or two do what you can to learn about SEO and getting traffic to your webpages. Learn what you can about choosing good keywords and create more pages or perhaps at this point buy your own domain and create your own website. Help generate more traffic through the use of backlinks by linking all of your blog pages and Squidoo pages to each other and your website. Pick products from Amazon and eBay related to the topic of your page and if anyone clicks on your product link and buys something you earn a commission. Notice how the selling modules and affiliate programs must be appropriate to the topic and helpful to the reader for it to work well. People get turned off fast from a site that screams BUY, BUY, BUY – they must get some good information from the page to stick around and possibly eventually click out on a link.

5. Create more pages on related or different topics that interest you. It helps if you can pick a niche or two that have topics that are related.
You won’t make a lot of money right away – it does take time and effort, but you won’t lose any money on a bunch of scams either.

To be successful with affiliate marketing it’s important to find a product you would want yourself and build a niche website around that product or category. SEO is important as well in order to generate more traffic to your website. If you aren’t able or do not know how to build a website, there are other systems out there that will do this for you. Some cost an initial start-up fee (like Plug-In Profit) and others are free (like 0mlm). Some systems will supply you with a domain for their products and others will not.

Firstly you will need a domain name, hosting and then your website. One of the most popular affiliate websites is http://www.clickbank.com and another one is http://www.paydot.com.They have thousands of products and are aimed at affilliate marketers.
Do some research on things that may interest you. Try to find a longtail keyword. put it in your domain name, and with no more that 60,000 competing websites.
