Heather received the Presidential Scholarship as a freshman at Saint Xavier school because of her good grades, and she has continued to benefit from it in her four years in the nursing program. Heather is president of the Student Nurses Association and says her decision to attend SXU was the best she made. “I feel like I know each one of my professors right here in a way that people who go to larger schools might not have. The nursing provider for the United States Army and provides qualified nursing staff in support of the Department of Defense medical plans. This corps is composed only of registered nurses (RN). AR 135-100, AR 135-101, AR 601-100, and applicable Army Nurse Corps circulars in the DA circular 601-FY-X series list qualifications for access. The US Army Nurse Corps (AN) consists entirely of commissioned officials. Nurses who wish to serve as an Army Nurse are required to hold an unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license prior to receiving a fee. For the Active Army, a Bachelor of technological know-how in Nursing (BSN) level is required. Reserve component nurses may commission with a BSN, Associate of Science in Nursing degree (ADN), or a Diploma in Nursing but they will have to obtain their BSN in order to be eligible for promotion to the rank of Major. The US Army is evaluating this standard and may determine that entry level for Reserve Component officers will be a BSN. At this time the decision has not been made and nurses remain in high demand. The degree conferring school must furthermore be National League for Nursing (NLN) accredited in order for a nurse to be eligible for commissioning. At the start of the war in Dec. 1941, there had been fewer than 1000 nurses in the Army Nurse Corps and 700 in the Navy Nurse Corps. All were women. Colonel Flikke’s small headquarters in 1942 …

Wrecking equipment is bringing down the former Family Practice Center building at 610 Eighth St. SE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. The gymnasium behind the building was demolished earlier. Mercy Hospital School of Nursing students lived and attended classes in the six-story brick building after it was completed in 1946 until the program ended in 1971. In later years, it was home to Linn Community Care and other offices. The building’s basement flooded in June and hospital officials decided to demolish the building rather than invest in repair.
