Question by Jonathan L: What is the best sounding highest quality 500 watt amp?
It will be on a 15″ Diamond D3. I obviously have been looking at the
JL 500/, but just seeing other options, I have no experience past JL and Kicker.

Answer by $ $ DCD #12$ $
With different subs it is hard to tell. Also depends on the money you want to spend. JL, Kenwood, MTX all make pretty good amps but they cost a lot of money usually. You can also check, DUAL, Power Acoustik, Pyle and those smaller company. Keep in mind ohms and watts but also maybe check with the sub manufacture and see if they have any suggestions. Remember your box as well will play a big role.

I don’t even know why DCD would mention those garbage brand amps, he asked for the BEST.

I’d go for something like a Sundown SAZ 1000D, that amp is extremely solid plus Jacob’s (owner of sundown) customer service is top notch. There’s many others that will work well too. You can find just as good or better quality for the price you would spend on that JL.
I’d go with JL Audio…I have it. I had the MTX 405, it was great, but the power demand was not constant (unregulated power supply). It depended on the voltage supply which gives you max power or some power. Athough I can’t hear the difference, except for the bass, I did not like it. The JL Audio slash series are all regulated, meaning the power remains constant, no mater what the voltage output is. It also gives you the same power no matter what the ohms is. I don’t really care for that part of the amp, only that part. I also had an Xtant amp, I liked it until I fried it. It is a regulated power supply, it dubbles with the ohms load rating until 2 ohms…I liked that part of the amp.
I would say to get regulated power supply amps. It will cost more then unregulated amps, but worth the me money, in my opinion.

If your headlight dims with the bass notes, the “BIG 3” might work. If not an H.O. alternator will be needed, or else be prepared to pour a lot of $ $ $ for batteries.
This site explains the “BIG 3” upgrades.

JL is one of the top amps in the market today. Have you watch a show on tv called Unique auto sports and West Coast Customs? They modify cars for looks and audio system for celebrities like Shaq Oneal (NBA star) and alot more. The systems they use are JL’s and JBL’s amps and speakers, they are high quality and very reliable. So use JL amps and look at there subwoofer also instead of the Diamond D3.
