Question by nitronorberg: cheap gaming computer help!?
i’m looking to stay under 1000 dollars for the entire desktop, meaning monitor included so 800 at most for the tower. does anyone know the cheapest place or site to visit to get the best price?. . . so far the best option i saw was this one. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12347221 it’s got 2.7 processor speed with 6 gigs of ram and 750 gb hard drive. .. i could change out the video card but would have to buy a bigger than 300 watt power supply from what i heard. .. . and it’s only 400$ for the tower! this is all i have come up with so far.. if i get a tower somewhere else with those specs it will cost a couple hundred dollars more from what i’ve seen. any tips anyone? and the last question is if i get that coputer i showed you, where is the best site to get a bigger power supply? and how big of a power supply is neccessary? i have never ordered anything online. thanks for the help!

Question by : Building a Gaming Pc. Which Components?
Hello,

I’m in the midst of building a gaming Pc. I’ve been looking online for parts and specs etc.. and am wondering a few things. Just things like with components work together etc.. (also, if you find somewhere with the better price than the one i’ve given please tell me. All of my components are in my shopping cart on www.tigerdirect.ca)

Here is my list:

Tower;
T925-3056 ::Thermaltake VL90001W2Z Armor A90 Black ATX Case – Window, USB 2.0, eSATA, HD Audio, ATX(21.5 lbs) (This is the tower i chose as it has room for 6 3.5″HDD’s for upgradeable Hard drive space, and it’s and ATX for the Motherboard i have chosen. And it comes with 2 prebuilt in fans.)
Motherboard;
S458-1334 ::ECS A790GXM-AD3 Motherboard – AMD 790GX, Socket AM3, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID(3.25 lbs) (Capable of a AM3 processor and it comes with most components installed already. also is capable of DDR3 Ram which is what i want as i want to go over the 4GB limit.)
CPU;
A79-0630 ::AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad Core Processor – 2.80GHz, Socket AM3, 2MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s), Retail(1 lbs) (I’m looking for a quadcore capable of most gaming, seems like this will be ok for a half decent price.)
HDD;
TSD-500AAKS ::Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard Drive – 500GB, 7200rpm, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM(1.55 lbs) (Cheap but 500GB will be plenty for me.)
Power Supply;
T925-3012 ::Thermaltake W0379RU TR2 Series Power Supply – 500 Watts, ATX(5.1 lbs) (not exactly sure, just randomly picked one for a ok price range to have a better idea of price.)
Extra Fan;
ULT40135 A ::Ultra Performance 120mm Case Fan Bundle – Buy One Get One Free(0.98 lbs) (Wanted this as the Case holds 4 fans and this is buy 1 get one free. Just for cooling purposes.
Graphics Card;
On Motherboard
RAM / Memory (not looking for any i can get that pretty much anywhere for cheaper than online prices, with overall shipping etc..

I can get all this for about 530$ and my limit is 600$ so if any suggestions on better quality for its price or lower priced components that’ll work with the other components i have, please tell me. All help is greatly appreciated.

Thats my list for now. As far as i know i need a cooling component, but thats one of my questions.

My questions are,
Will all these components fit together? With alittle Room also?
Will these components work together, without problems?
What Coolling component should i get, that will fit in that Computer case, and Works and keeps my CPU cool? (Please nothing crazy expensive).
Is my Power Supply too much for the motherboard that it’ll fry it? Or is it too less that components wont work correctly?
Is the Video Card that comes with the Motherboard capable of gaming, (mostly for playing Call of Duty 4,5,6, or 7). Or other games that are up to that standard?

Those are the components i have chosen. If there’s anything i have missed, please tell me.
Well thanks for your time. Cheers

Louis
Sorry i didn’t write prices; (All Canadian Prices as i live in Canada.)
Tower = $ 112.99
Motherboard = 99.99
Processor = 79.97
Fan = 21.99
Power supply = 68.99
Hard Disk Drive = 39.97

517.86 is total with S&H and Tax Included.

Answer by Computer Noob
Try searching for the same parts on newegg.com because sometimes they have better prices and I’m sure they have services in Canada too.

Do you have operating system? Like Windows 7 or Vista?

I suggest in getting a real graphics card because onboard can barley play any type of games today.

Get them on newegg.ca

Get rid of the cpu and the cpu cooler, I suggest you to get the x4 640 for better performance and invest some money on a sapphire vapor-x 5750 1gb card. Or any other 5750 ati card.

Get a XION AXP Classic Series AXP600-001BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case and it supports 120mm fans as well and can fit 8 I believe at a bit cheaper price.

You’d be far better off building your own. You could build a better system for $ 1100-1200. You do not need 16 GB of RAM. 4 GB is enough for games, and 8 GB is overkill

Drop the AMD 1100T processor. Both the Intel Core i5 2500K/Core i7 2600K are much better processors, and have no need for liquid cooling since they can be clocked up to 4-4.5 ghz on air

See the references below. They will help you make an informed decision, I think.

BTW, you only can use 3GB of memory unless you are using Windows 64 bit.

Personally, I would not get either. I would look for a system based on the Intel i5-750, not one using old technology.

Question by : Where to buy a new gaming computer?
Okay so I’m 16 years old and i want a new gaming computer so i can play the upcoming World of Warcraft : Mists of Pandaria game, Diablo 3, League of Legends, and more games. I am not the richest person ever so i want to get a gaming laptop that can play all those games atleast on regular or ultra settings with the cheapest price. I prefer buying it at a store by hand. So can anyone tell me or link me a computer that can do that, but at a retail store please? Some people have told me to make a computer myself by going to Alienware.com and Ibuypower.com. I do not want an alienware computer because some of my relatives have had problems with them so i don’t want to have the same problem. I’m not real big on online buying so when i went to Ibuypower.com i customized my computer but then at the end it said something like “Interest, and bills etc.” and im young so i have no idea what any of this means. Can anyone again maybe give me a little more inside information about buying a computer online? As in how it all works (I prefer people who have bought a computer online answer this question). I dont want to screw my parents over by buying a computer that says its 1000 dollars online and then having a bill that says a lot more. So thats the main reason why im scared of ordering online because at a store we can ask questions and things like that. So anyone please help i would like all the information i could get involving this situation. Oh and i want a gaming desktop not a laptop. Also if there is a computer at a store that can play Diablo 3 on regular setttings that is fine with me. I also don’t really know about the video cards because some require a certian type of watt or something like that and i just want to having a desktop that can play my games!!!!! i didnt realize it would be so hard to find one.

Son, let me give you a quick piece of advice.

Learn your computers now. If you like gaming, awesome — then you’re like everyone else with a console. But if you KNOW your computers, you can end up saving a lot of money and MAKING a lot of money as well in the future.

There is a high demand for computer related fields in the market right now.

BUILD your own computer. I know a great site called www.newegg.com where you can buy separate parts at a fraction of the cost of buying a completed rig.

Do yourself a favor and listen to my advice. It’ll only better you.

Good luck!

Q&A: Build myself a gaming PC OR Buy HP 390t with $500 discount?

Find The Lowest Price HERE

Question by : Build myself a gaming PC OR Buy HP 390t with 0 discount?
Okay, I need help with deciding whether or not I should build a gaming PC or just buy it from HP with good $ 500 discount. Let me list different parts of my build vs HP build so all you people can help me on which one is better.

My build:

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme 980x, 3.33GHz (Six Core) 12000K
CPU Fan: Intel Socket 1366 CPU fan
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage III Extreme X58, DDR3, SLI & Cross Fire,SATA3, GB LAN, USB 3.0,iEEE
RAM: 12GB (3x4GB) PC3 10600 DDR3 1333 Triple Channel
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 5970 2GB PCI Express 16x dual head DVI, HDMI
Hard Drive: 1000.0GB Western Digital Green SATA2 UDMA 300 32m cache
DVD: LG 22x DVD Recorder Dual Layer +R/RW -R/RW
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Black Case, Full Tower, Side Window, front USB & iEEE
Power Supply: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000w Extra Quiet ATX Power Supply SLI & X-fire ready

This come out about $ 3400 with shipping fees and taxes after I use price check with Tigerdirect.com and Newegg.com

HP build:

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme 980x, 3.33GHz (Six Core) 12000K
CPU Fan: Intel Socket 1366 CPU fan
Motherboard: Pegatron IPMTB-TK
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01901210&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us%E2%8C%A9=en&product=4#N825
RAM: 24GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [6 DIMMs]
Graphic Card: 1.8GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
Hard Drive: FREE UPGRADE! 1.5TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 1TB
DVD: Blu-ray player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
Network card: Wireless-N LAN card
Media Card: 15-in-1 memory card reader, 1 USB, 1394, audio
Case: HP case with dimension of 16.85″(L) x 7.05″(W) x 15.79″(H)
Power Supply: 460 watts
OP: Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

This comes out around $ 3100 after taxes (free shipping). $ 2,902.99 before taxes (initial price $ 3,402.99 before $ 500 discount)

As you can see HP build is cheaper than mine even though I have concerns in a few areas. First of all, their Power Supply is only at 460 watts so if I want to upgrade something in future, it will cost me more with building a new Power Supply. I don’t know much about their motherboard so if someone knows about it, please help me explain. Another thing about is I can’t get much information about their 1.8GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260. I know you can only buy 896 MB GTX 260 outside. I talked with HP live chat agent and he said 1.8GB GTX 260 is only made exclusively for HP 390t and you can’t buy it outside. Well, beside these few points, I like HP build.

I think my build has better motherboard, Graphic card, and power supply. It’s more expensive. HP build has better RAM, more hard drive, better media card readers, and cheaper than my build. So which one should I go with? Thanks in advance for help.

Best answer:

Answer by William V
I’ve been building my own systems for years and just constructed a i7 980x system last month. Mine cost about what the HP system did ’cause I waited for the loss-leaders at Frys and jumped when the processor when on sale ($ 725 or so). That said, unless you’re used to working on and maintaining your own systems, I would get the HP. That’s because they will support it. HOWEVER, if you call HP support and they’re in India or Whoknowswhereistan you might find it faster/easier to take on the support role yourself instead of dealing with folks that don’t seem to care. I say that after having given up on HP printers for just that reason–they fought me every inch of the way to get simple warranty work done. If you’re happy with HP support, go for it. Again, it’s been years since I tried to get help from HP so they might have moved support back in-country.
As to the power supply, some HP systems use proprietary power supplies, so simply swapping theirs out for a reasonable sized supply (IMHO 750Watts would be minimum for that rig) would be harder.
