Well not only is UPWC getting a Real ring, but we got some nice lights to go with it to… since its gonna start getting dark by 5, we dont wanna stop our training yet .. we wanna keep going. I got these lights at Lowes for only 10 buck a pop and with only 8 of them, i turned my backyard into a mini sports complex lol. they are 500 watt halogen lights and i must say i am quite impressed XD.

Question by Jeff B: UV index relating to Halogen lightbulbs?
I have a cheap 500 watt halogen work light which has a UV filtering glass lens.
The question I have is, how much UV is being filtered? If I were to take the lens out, how would the UV exposure compare to sunlight? (I am familiar with the UV index scale)

I’m looking for an alternative to going out in the sun because it’s been raining nearly every day for weeks now, and my newborn son is jaundiced and requires some sunlight to help him clear it up.
Can I use my (500w quartz) shop light with or without the lens filter to get him some controlled, and safe UV exposure for limited time?

If you could direct me to a source of information that would be much appreciated. I’ve been looking online for 2 hours now and am finding it difficult to get a clear answer.
It was the doctors and nurses that kept telling us to get him sunlight for UV to help the jaundice.

I found my answer online for myself anyways.
a 50watt halogen bulb located just 25 cm away will give equivalent UV to sunlight on a normal day. This means that a 500 watts quartz bulb will give equal UV from at least 40 inches away for 10 minutes.

DO NOT put a new-born under a sunlamp.
Talk to your Pediatrician or OB-GYN first.
An appearance of jaundice in newborns is commonly due to an iron surplus from
excess placental blood and not a cause for much concern.
