Hello! I have had a laborious time trying to determine out what I need to do for the relax of my lifestyles and might like to listen your enter.
First of all, I was enrolled in the nursing software and withdrew as a result of I may simply not handle the challenges. I completely had what it took to graduate. However, I could not live the lifestyle as a student. I was bodily sick from all of the stress. I have excessive drive in all that I do and I in finding myself to be pretty intelligent. I just misplaced my power. Therefore, I lost desire in the nursing box. ..
Anyway, after many years of searching, I really assume that occupational therapy would be nice for me. I really feel like this profession fits me perfectly. I have always involved that one day I would just settle with a career because I couldn’t in finding what was proper for me. Well, I truthfully can say I THINK I would revel in getting up for paintings everyday! I am an EXTREMELY COMPASSIONATE individual and feel like I could provide a lot with this job.
My main query. .. Is Occupational therapy harder/equal to nursing faculty. . I recognise that it depends on the school, etc. I must say that no subject what nursing college you go to, it is ABSOLUTELY DRAINING no matter what. I just do not want to waste any extra time… I want to hear what different folks have to say.. I will absolutely work arduous in school and give school my all, yet I don’t want to be so stressed in the process that I am physically in poor health. Again, I am willing to paintings hard. What is your take on Occupational therpay school? What are a few of the requirements? Did you get thru without being sleep deprived each single day?
For example, If you made less than a 70 on an examination 3 times, then you would fail the semester. A 70 does not sound bad at all, yet when you are in the nursing software it is more demanding. I was constantly worried approximately financial aid, etc.
I plan to read books on Occupational therapy and find out more information… If you have any e-book reccomendations let me understand. Also, do you know the place I can find a CREDIBLE web site online that shows school rankings/admission requirements, etc? By the way, for your information, I have a bachelors degree. Honestly, I suggest you whole some shadowing/observation hours. Not just a few hours right right right here and there, but a serious commitment of hours. And they could serve two purposes: to help you figure out what you think of the school and to meet grad school requirements. so much ot schools require hours (number varies). I completed about 150.
Anyhow, complete the hours. Get a smartly rounded picture of the field sooner than committing. I know a few OTs who did not realize that they did not like ot until their fieldwork (right before they graduate). And now they are stuck working a job they don’t enjoy because they have loans to pay off. The field is not perfect, and it will not be the right fit for everyone.
And in my opinion, there is no one magical career that will make us happy. Every job has professionals and cons, just right days and bad days. I have talked to OTs who like their work but hate the system where they have to work (where they are pressured to be “productive” and are no longer producing quality therapy). Sometimes OTs are asked to do unethical things which put their license on the line.
I’m not positive what to inform you about how hard the software is seeing that I don’t have other grad program experience to compare it to. I additionally have a natural affinity for school, so I manage well. I know there are others in my cohort who have been gettIng very overwhelmed lately, and we are only 7 weeks in to the program. There are days where I get very little sleep, but other days where I can coast off 6/7 hours of sleep.
Each school has slightly different requirements. A specific quantity of OT remark hours. Prereq classes (anat and physio, stats, abnormal psych, etc), letters of req, some require the gre, and so forth. You will have to check the website for the program you are interested in. You can find a list of systems at the AOTA website.
Be aware that OT school is getting tougher and harder to get into every yr. And private schools cost a lot in tuition (so much that most OTs that rely on mostly loans to pay their way through school will not be ready to pay back loans with the standard 10 year program). OTs just dont make enough per year to cover loans that are close to or exceeding six figures. Public programs are much more inexpensive.
Since the job market is good for OTs, it doesn’t matter how highly or lowly your school is ranked. You will be able to find a job easily. It is better to attend an affordable program.
You can see more opinions at the OT forums on indeed website. You will see people who love OT and hate OT. Observe more than a few settings (I emphasize various) and communicate to OTs that you meet about pros and cons. Good luck!! Even if you decide OT is not for you, there are many options out there. Either way, I believe you will be successful. You sound like an individual who knows how to work hard and earn what they want.
