Question by Julian: What is the best amp for a TC Sounds Epic 8″ Subwoofer?
I’m purchasing a TC Sounds Epic 8″ Subwoofer and would like to know more regarding how much power I should be sending it. It says it can handle 500 watts @ 2+2 Ohms and I am trying to find the best possible amp for my setup. I’m also trying to build the best possible sealed enclosure for this driver and have come across .65 as being the best and would like to know more opinions on the matter.

You can always find something more expensive, but this unit has more than enough power to run this your sub, plus as you read through description, you will find other features that make it a good choice

I deliberately found this amp even though it has more than 500rms watt of power at 1 ohm. All the research shows that these subs are hungry for energy. That’s why I select amps that have plenty of head room.

It’s a refurbished unit by the manufacturer, otherwise it’s like brand new, warranty and all. If you want this deal, grab it now because they probably have only one at this price.

Just in case you want an amp with a stronger reputation, here is a link for you.

$ 200
Rockford Fosgate Prime R750-1D 750 watts RMS Mono subwoofer amplifier
mono subwoofer amplifier
400 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
750 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm
CEA-2006 compliant
variable low-pass filter (50-250 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
variable subsonic filter (15-40 Hz)
variable Punch bass boost (0-12 dB at 45 Hz)
optional wired remote Punch Level Control
Class-D amplifier design
MOSFET power and output stages
frequency response: 20-250 Hz
preamp-level inputs and outputs

As you know, Rockford bench test each amp before it leaves the factory. The actual performance of the amp is recorded on a certificate that comes with the amp. It’s always more watts than it is rated on the spec sheet. So with this amp, you will get AT LEAST 750rms watts at 1 ohm

I also looked for a sealed enclosure for you. I don’t know the displacement volume of your sub, but here is one that is close to .65 as you requested. This one is 0.77. It’s for 10″ subs, so you would need to make a transfer plate with opening for your sub, and then glue and screw it on top of the opening on this enclosure.
