Answer by PimpMyRide Other than used and perhaps some “flea-market” brands, you’ll be unlikely to find a sub package for $ 200. A “really good” one will be even more.
Here’s an Alpine entry-level package for $ 330. You’ll need to add an 8 gauge amp wiring kit.
Here’s a Kenwood package that is under $ 200, but the amp is pretty low powered. The same package with 10″ subs is $ 10 cheaper. You’ll need an enclosure as well as an amp wiring kit for this one.

I have Scoche 12 guage “high performance” speaker wire; it was the best they had at Wal-Mart. Can that handle 500 watts? I have a Boss DD3600 which is a one-channel mono block and puts out about 1000 Watts at 2 ohms, but I’m using two speakers. Since the speakers are Dual voice coil, I can also run two lines to each speaker instead of splitting it.

I don’t know much about car audio.. Anyway, I have a 15″ sub that says it uses 700 Watts. I was looking around and came across a very cheap 1000 Watt amp. However, it says that it’s 2 x 500 Watts MAX output, or 1000 Watts bridged. Would that be OK to use, or should I be looking for 700 Watt amps?

Answer by Drea No, that will work. It will only put out what it can. Since it’s not possible to put out 1000 wts on a 700 wt speaker, it will put out only (up to) 700. Probably less, around 550-650. The MAX output is what it could put out if it were attached to speakers with 1000 wts avaliable.
