Question by Bobby: I have a 1000 watt amp, what kind of subwoofer should I get?
I have a Sony 1000 watt amp and i want to know what kind of a subwoofer i can get. Im think along the lines of 1500w subwoofer. Is that too high or too low?

Ok so u have a Sony 1000watt amp. But really you have a 500-600watt amp. I’m not trying to be a diick or anything but Sony just over rates in power. And I would just go with like a Sony subwoofer I’m sure that would be best bet.

Question by Julian: What is the best amp for a TC Sounds Epic 8″ Subwoofer?
I’m purchasing a TC Sounds Epic 8″ Subwoofer and would like to know more regarding how much power I should be sending it. It says it can handle 500 watts @ 2+2 Ohms and I am trying to find the best possible amp for my setup. I’m also trying to build the best possible sealed enclosure for this driver and have come across .65 as being the best and would like to know more opinions on the matter.

You can always find something more expensive, but this unit has more than enough power to run this your sub, plus as you read through description, you will find other features that make it a good choice

I deliberately found this amp even though it has more than 500rms watt of power at 1 ohm. All the research shows that these subs are hungry for energy. That’s why I select amps that have plenty of head room.

I also looked for a sealed enclosure for you. I don’t know the displacement volume of your sub, but here is one that is close to .65 as you requested. This one is 0.77. It’s for 10″ subs, so you would need to make a transfer plate with opening for your sub, and then glue and screw it on top of the opening on this enclosure.

Question by bilmer_56: How to change a Passive Subwoofer to a Powered subwoofer in a Phillips Home Theater System?
I currently have a 1000 watt Phillips home theater system and would like to get rid of the passive subwoofer and put in a powered subwoofer. The phillips system does not have component audio outputs. It only has the two small speaker wires that go to the subwoofer. Please let me know how I can hook up a powered subwoofer to this system.

Unfortunately, many HTIB systems and other similar home theater package systems just don’t give you the flexibility that a modular system would give -the price you pay for budget-minded convenience. However, you should have an AUX OUT or an alternative AUDIO OUT that you may use as a SUB OUT. Even the CENTER OUT would work if you have one on your HTS.

Or, as a couple of options, you could either get a higher efficiency/performance passive sub if you just need more performance, or add a subwoofer amplifier to your existing sub.

I have some recommendations for excellent examples of powered (and greater performance passive) subwoofers at different price levels for you to put on your short list…

A 1000 watt amp will send the voice coil in that subwoofer flying right out the top of the cone. Whoever told you to buy a 1000 watt amp is not to be trusted. The subwoofer you’re looking at is only rated at 250 watts RMS @ 4ohm and that’s a single voice coil. Look for a monoblock amp rated at 250 watts @ 4 ohm and that will be perfect for you.
