Question by Sam: do i need a wiring adapter for my radio?
I got a new radio..xdmar6720. I installed it into my 2000 chevy impala ls and theres no sound? I hardwired everything to the assigned colored wires..it works with a separate speakers but not im my car. Do i need a wire adapter for this? It turns on and all but no sound.i also have 2 12 inch mtx terminator subs and a 500 watt alpine amp if that helps.
Could i use that adapter? If not where can i find an adapter? I cant find any.

Answer by D You should always get the correct adapter harness. It’s possible you have an additional factory amp that has to be bypassed with a bypass harness. This is the usual reason for the symptom your’e describing.

I’m hooking up my subs and ill be pushing around 1000 watts. Do I need the 1000 watt wiring kit or will the cheaper wiring kit that’s only rated at 640 watts work? It’s fine with me as long as its safe and the quality won’t be drastically changed?

Answer by jomcgre3 What happens when you push too much current through a wire? It gets hot, melts insulation, shorts out and blows a fuse if you are lucky, or burns out the amp if you are not. Do it right the first time. It will cost less in the long run.

Question by Brandon: Is it okay to use a 8 Gauge wiring kit with a 500 watt amp?
I have a 500 watt amp and it says to use 4 gauge wiring. But i got 8 gauge for cheap and i was wondering if its okay to use the 8 gauge instead of 4?

Answer by Dude Go to your local Lowes or Home depot and get #10 stranded copper, white or black, or see if they have speaker cable. Best Buy is sometimes the worst buy.

I have one of these guys in my car, and a buddy of mine has one running the exact same amp you do… be aware, it is only about 6awg, but it should still do ya fine… plus you’ll save $ 30 from what you wanna spend!
