After a bizarre first press briefing earlier this week in which Sean Spicer slammed the media for their obsession with Trump’s inaugural crowd sizes, Spicer is set to take questions once again from an undoubtedly anxious press corps starting at 3:30PM EST. Although yesterday’s briefing was somewhat more subdued, we suspect the press will be eager to pepper Spicer with questions regarding Trump’s rapid-fire signing of several executive orders aimed squarely at dismantling key components of Obama’s “legacy”.

And while yesterday’s breifing was somewhat more subued than his first, Spicer sent a clear message that White House Press Breifings going forward will be anything but “traditional” by calling on the New York Post and the Christian Broadcasting Network for his first questions.

Sean Spicer, the new White House press secretary, made it clear in his first official briefing that, like his boss, he would break with Washington precedents. After he stepped to the lectern yesterday and read a lengthy readout of the President’s day—three Presidential memoranda signed and several meetings with corporate C.E.O.s, union officials, and congressional leaders—he called on his first news organization, the New York Post.

So it was no surprise when Spicer ignored the first row of correspondents from the major news wires and TV networks and selected the Post, whose correspondent inquired, “When will you guys commence the building of the border wall?”

From the Post, Spicer moved on to a reporter from the Christian Broadcasting Network, who asked about abortion policy. Spicer eventually came back to the mainstream outlets in the front row. He did a commendable job of taking questions from a wide range of news organizations in a briefing that lasted well beyond the typical time period. He announced one change to the format: he would soon bring in reporters from outside Washington to ask questions via Skype, a modernization that seems harmless. Once Spicer got going, the briefing seemed almost routine—almost.

Images of so-called anti-Trump rioters breaking Starbucks' windows, busting trash cans, and burning bourgeois limousines in the streets of Washington DC really exposed the reality of the alt-left's tolerance and 'stuck it to the man'. The only problem being, in the case of the limo, 'the man' was Muslim immigrant Muhammad Ashraf whose small business now faces $70,000 losses and an injured employee.

As The Washington Examiner reports, the limousine that was set on fire during the anti-Trump anarchist protest in downtown Washington on Inauguration Day is owned by a Muslim immigrant who says the damage could cost his company $70,000.

Muhammad Ashraf, the owner of Nationwide Chauffeur Services, spoke with the Washington Examiner's sister publication, Red Alert Politics, about what happened:

In an exclusive interview with Red Alert Politics, Ashraf said he wasn't a supporter of Donald Trump during his campaign, but Friday's protests were completely counter-productive.

“I have a different point of view,” Ashraf told Red Alert. “I did not agree with many of the things he said, but that still does not give me the right to go and affect someone's livelihood.”

Ashraf noted that the Women's March on Washington and in other cities around the country was a model for how to peacefully protest.

“I really don't think we need to take this [violent] route.”

Ashraf's employee, Luis Villarroel, 58, was dropping a client off at their destination when things turned ugly.

Protesters smashed doors and windows in the vicinity, but then turned their attention to Villarroel and the limo. People began pounding on the car and started throwing stones and bricks in his direction.

The driver ended up going to the hospital for cuts on his hands and arms from glass being shattered by thrown projectiles. […]

“[We've] been in business for over 25 years and this is the first time this has happened,” Ashraf said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the company raise the money if insurance won't cover the protest damage. Ashraf said any money raised beyond paying for the car and medical expenses for his employee will go to charity.

Perhaps George Soros should 'fund' that to support Muslim immigrant Americans? Instead of the anarchy on the streets…

The Spanish banking sector is getting used to judicial setbacks. Unfortunately, they’re not the sorts of setbacks we’d like to see. This could have been an article on the elimination of the legal privileges — e.g., the existence of a state-owned central bank in charge of bailing out its (equally) irresponsible fellows — that financial businesses are nowadays granted worldwide. Eliminating those privileges would have been a setback for the banking sector, but good for everyone else. Unfortunately, that’s not what’s been happening: no liberalization of that sort whatsoever has taken place.

Rather, several recent rulings from Spanish courts have systematically encroached on the individual’s right to contract with others — and the public opinion is gleefully celebrating their decisions.

It all started back in 2013 when the Spanish Supreme Court declared the nullity of the so-called “floor clauses,” which simply constituted a minimum level set on the payment of interests on (mortgage) loans and which were included in many of such contracts during the housing bubble. These clauses were commonly accompanied by “roof clauses,” whose content was exactly the opposite (i.e., a maximum interest rate) and yet did not experience any ban by the judicial authorities.

Thus, a contract by which two freely agreeing parties, in accordance with their personal evaluations of risk, decided to put some limit to the amount of interest that could derive from the loan, was deemed void by the Justices, since it supposedly violated Spanish consumer’s protection legislation. The key element defining the “abusive character” of floor clauses was its alleged “obscurity” or “lack of transparency,” even though signed contracts would commonly refer to those conditions in terms such as: “It is hereby established that in no case the interest rate shall be lower than 3.5% or higher than 14%.”

These rulings are forcing banks alone to bear the consequences of their costumers’ decisions when it comes to legal disputes between them. It is becoming a worrying judicial habit.

For instance, just a few days ago the same malicious “abusive” feature was interpreted by the courts to exist in a whole myriad of other contracting clauses included in mortgage loans, like multi-currency calculation of its value, the responsibility of the borrower as regards the payment of a special tax on economic activities and other legal expenditures. More recently, a judge decided for the first time to allow a debtor to turn over his house as a way to extinguish the mortgage loan without having agreed on it with the creditor.

Not surprisingly, all the above-mentioned judicial resolutions have been welcomed by the citizenry with a unanimous joyful roar in celebration of the “people’s” victory over a profiteer capitalistic elite. In that sense the court’s verdicts resemble an act of ideological revenge against the banking sector, rather than the usual result of justice administration.
