More pics here: www.stevemeadedesigns.com Last year, i built a ported “box” out of a pumpkin, this year, i decided to do a fully contained sound system (everything except the battery is built in). Kenwood deck, Soundigital Nano-250 watt amps (one on woofers, one on mids/highs), Rockford Fosgate Pro Audio speakers, Rockford Fosgate 8″ subwoofer and of course, an SMD VU-Din. This thing actually sounds pretty damn good! Too bad it will be a rotten mess before anyone besides a few people gets to hear it. Today we tried it out in my Astro Van 😀 Happy Halloween 2012 to all reading this description. [BannerCampaign id=1] Question by darkest.rainbow: What makes car radio system good car radio system?
I want some good sound equipment and I’m trying to compare prices and features and I don’t know what to compare to know that one is better than the other. For example, I’m looking for good speakers with good quality, I was looking just for the watts but some have less watts for a higher price than ones with less watts. So just wanted to know what specs I should consider when buying and what, in your opinion, are good enough features?

Answer by Hemp123 Take a look at SPL and SQL. Visit your local showroom to have them demonstrate a few subwoofers/speakrs for you. That’s the only way to really have a hands on feel for your own personal taste.
[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by hotmaroulis: Looking for help to find the best HOME Theater system to fit my needs?
I want 1000 watts/includes blu-ray player/NO tall speakers that look like aliens/$ 500.00 max/with wireless rear speakers (not wireless ready) but wireless included. I don’t know a lot about audio, but whatever I read on the Amazon & Best Buy sites is making me more confused. Would really appreciate any advise and/or insight. Thank you.
[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by bilmer_56: How to change a Passive Subwoofer to a Powered subwoofer in a Phillips Home Theater System?
I currently have a 1000 watt Phillips home theater system and would like to get rid of the passive subwoofer and put in a powered subwoofer. The phillips system does not have component audio outputs. It only has the two small speaker wires that go to the subwoofer. Please let me know how I can hook up a powered subwoofer to this system.

Answer by WenwAudiocom Unfortunately, many HTIB systems and other similar home theater package systems just don’t give you the flexibility that a modular system would give -the price you pay for budget-minded convenience. However, you should have an AUX OUT or an alternative AUDIO OUT that you may use as a SUB OUT. Even the CENTER OUT would work if you have one on your HTS.
Or, as a couple of options, you could either get a higher efficiency/performance passive sub if you just need more performance, or add a subwoofer amplifier to your existing sub.
I have some recommendations for excellent examples of powered (and greater performance passive) subwoofers at different price levels for you to put on your short list…

[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by VerdeOjos: Can someone explain what the “watts” mean on a home theater system?
I thought the higher the watts, the better the system, but why are some 500 watt systems more expensive than the 1,000 watts? I know brand of course… but any other advice? I want a good system, but i have NO idea what the sound difference would be, and mostly when they are hooked up in stores I don’t like to turn them up loud because of the other customers….
USA. California 🙂
Thanks

Answer by Mark T Depends on several things:
Quality of the product – a Smeg&Grommit 200W amp is perhaps a lot cheaper than a Technics 100 Watt amp
It also depends on what you mean by watts.
RMS – True meaningful number
Music Power – This is a way of doubling the figure so it looks like a more powerful system.
PMPO (purely mythical power output).
The last one is a way for cheap products with perhaps as little as 20 watts RMS to pretend to be producing HUNDREDS of watts and manage to avoid prosecution.
ALWAYS compare like for like. Ask what the ampliers output is in RMS.

[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by John: I want to install a 1000 watt rms system in my Civic. What do I need to do?
I have a 1994 Honda Civic and I want to install a 1000 watt rms amp to power my subs, but I’m sure that would be ridiculous stress on the electrical system. I was wondering what I would need to do in order to accomodate my system. I’ve heard a lot of mixed answers and I want to do everything myself, so I need the simplist advice possible. I also need to take the cheapest route possible. Any good advice will be greatly appreciated.

Answer by John H i had 1600 watts dual 15s in my escort 🙂 and all it did was make the lights flicker at stop lights when the rpms were low.
Just buy an amp and hook it up, it isnt that hard and it will come with instuctions. If you dont have an aftermarket stereo with rca out puts, dont bother with subwoofers yet.
