[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by : I’m converting a freezer into a smoker and I need to wire in a thermostat to control the 1000 watt burner?
Most people tell me to go and get an old oven thermometer but those thermometers are made for 220V and of course my heating element is 110V. How do I make two compatible? Also I need a heating range from 90 deg to 200 degrees, will an oven thermostat be able to accommodate such a low temperature?
Best answer:
Answer by frederickdeguzman_1972 you will need a small bulb receptacle and a 110 volts low wattage bulb eg. 20watts. once you series the this between the thermometer and the filament, 110 becomes 220 and 220 becomes 110. there is also another way to do this, you can use two filament in a series that will become 220 volts. 110 +110. 90 degrees in centigrade is the minimum operating temperature for most oven thermostat.

[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by foucachon: How many hard drives can I put on my 500 watt power supply (safely)?
Here’s the context. I’m running an older computer as a server. I have a 350 watt power supply running inside the chassis JUST for the CPU, video card, internal fans, motherboard, etc.
I have an additional power supply DEDICATED to 5 hard drives and 1 fan. It’s running fine right now, but I would like to add some more hard drives – possibly as many as 3-4 more.
Will my 500 watt power supply power up to 8 hard drives (plus one 14mm fan) just fine? Should I get ANOTHER power supply for the additional drives ?
Thanks!
(PS – if you’re wondering how I’m fitting all those drives, they’re actually external on this rack: http://www.amazon.com/Sans-Digital-HDDRACK5-5-Bay-Organizing/dp/B001LF40KE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339093657&sr=8-1 ). I have Sata cables running from the motherboard, out of the back of the computer, and to this rack).
One of you requested a photo 🙂
Answer by Menard K You should have a wattage number for any given device that you intend
to connect, simply add up the wattage numbers and see what you have.
[BannerCampaign id=1] Question by outlawed478: Please I need help with a good sub choice for a good price with my monoblock 500 watt rms 1000 peak amp?
I have an xterminator 1000d mono-block amplifier 500 rms @ 1 ohm, which i blew my two 4 ohm 12″ kicker comp vrs wired at 2 ohms each sub, in about 2 or 3 months with the gains turned down low i like to set my subsonic filter down to 15 Hz. What are some good subs that will be able to handle this amp i want louder sound and more depth?
Best answer:
Answer by m house The Alpine type R is a great sub. It is rated at 500 watts rms but it can easily handle 800 watts rms. I have 500 watts going to mine and I can be heard a block away, literally. The definitley has fantastic bang for the buck. One of these subs is all I care to have.
Check ebay for a great deal on the sub.
