Question by d s: How much does it cost to keep a lightbulb on for 10 hours in Ontario?
If I’m using a 100W lightbulb, how much will it cost to keep it on for one night? (eg, 10 hours). How does that compare to keeping the refrigerator on for the same duration?
Thanks!
Edit: I’m not looking for exact figures, just a rough estimate or guess

It depends on how much you pay per unit of electricity

Using a 100 w lamp for 10 hours equals 1 kilowatt.
( 1000 watts)
A kilowatt hour means 1000 watts in use for 1 hour.
Same as if a 200 watt lamp for 5 hours.
Your price for electric service may be in the area of 13 cents per Kwh.
So approx 13 cents.
A refrigerator will not normally run constantly for 10 hours. It depends on air temperature in the area where the appliance is located, how big the appliance compressor unit is, and how long it does have to run to maintain the internal cold temperature.
If it runs for 2 hours out of 10 and the wattage during that run time is say 750 watts – then you have used 1.5 kwh
