Squier by Fender makes a decent beginner’s guitar. The amp that comes with is perfectly fine for learning and practicing.

Hello there,
I am not a fan of any starter pack. The amps in those are worthless. They bundle up cheap crap to sell to the uninformed. Buy the guitar and the amp separately.
Guitar? Yes, Fender does make some great guitars. The Fender Stratocaster is an icon. The Affinity is a Squier guitar. It is not made by Fender. It is made in China for Fender under the Squier logo. Big difference. It is a Squier Strat and not a Fender Strat. The Squier models are the brand name Fender uses to market inexpensive guitars priced for beginners. Decent quality guitars that look like Fender guitars. But they are Squier and are a lesser quality. Of course you should expect that. An Affinity sells for $ 180. The Fender Standard Stratocaster MIM sells for $ 500 and the Fender American Standard Stratocaster sells for $ 1000. So natuarally any $ 180 guitar will not feel like or sound like a $ 500 or $ 1000 Strat. The Affinity is a decent guitar for a beginner. It does have an alder body, but is not made to Fender specs. The Affinity body is thinner than a Fender body. It is still a good beginner gutiar.
Amp? The FM15g is pretty much a bare bones amp. I think a digital modeling amp is a good choice for a beginner. Those have the sounds of several classic amps programmed in. So they are versatile. They have several commonly used effects built in. That saves you the cost of buying separate pedals. Vox, Peavey, Marshall, Line 6 and Fender all make comparable models. They are priced the same and all are good. I think the Fender Mustang is the better buy. It has more power and more features. A Fender Mustang I is a 20 watt 1×8 amp that costs $ 100. The Fender Mustang II is a 40 watt 1×12 that costs $ 200.
