subs are rated by max witch dont really mean anything, you usuall go by the rms thats like countious power,,so a good begener sub is like kicker comps almost any lil amp will bang those, not the bigger rms kickers youll need a ton of money

What amp (amplifier) recommendations would you give if I have a pair of 1000 watt speakers?

Question by silversurfer_2007: What amp (amplifier) recommendations would you give if I have a pair of 1000 watt speakers?
I bought a pair of 1000 watt speakers that have been sitting in the box and are basically used as a stand for my cable modem/router and audio interface merely because I have yet to purchase a suitabkle amplifier to power them. Can anyone enlighten me as to what you would recommend I power them with? I would appreciate any recommendations, though I am not looking to go overboard as these are my secondary speakers because I have pretty good quality studio monitors already.

Answer by Charles C
Just because they may be rated at 1000W, which I promise is an exageration. That would have to be at a very short duation peak at a single freq. does not mean you need a large Amp. The efficiency rating and desired volume are more important.
Ex. A speaker with a rating of 89 Db @ 1W will require twice as much power as one rated 92 Db @ 1W. Each 3Db higher efficiency means you only need half the power for the same volume.
I would shop Ebay for a good deal on something like an older Denon or Luxman. I just saw an older Radio Shack Amp going pretty cheap for 100W/ ch. Decent Amp with enough power for plenty of volume.

Q&A: Car Audio: Right Amplifier to buy?

Question by Fro: Car Audio: Right Amplifier to buy?
Alright I’ve had way too many problems with my past 2 amps (this one which i just recently purchased and hooked up just yesterday…won’t go into detail)

Pretty much the amp that I got I was retarded and didn’t look at the RMS…I’m really not all that sure how to figure out…it has 3 25 Amp fuses…and it says its 2600 Watt Peak power….anyway it likes to cut out all the time…a technician told me to check the stable load on the wires in the subbox…and I re did all of them…put em how they are supposed to be…so everything is working except the amp is still being a pain in my ass. It didn’t make it any better that it didn’t come with a fan. lol what amp doesn’t come with a fan?

Anyway I’m not sure how many W RMS my subs can handle and I don’t know how to figure it out…maybe somebody has the same SUBS as me and could tell me.
I’m running 2 12″ Pioneer Premier Competetion Pro Series that are 2,000 Watts a peice. (Guessing maybe 500 Watts RMS?) I’m not too sure…the only thing I do know is that they are serious and thunder ridiculous.

Anyway I’m sick of wasting money here and there on this system so I need and idea on what amp I need to get to power these babies without having the protect mode/cut out thing going on.

Also The technician also told me that because it’s a 2 channel amp then that is the problem and I need to get a mono block amp or just wire my subs 4 ohm…I think he was full of it because my manual for the amp says that it can handle 2 OHM…so I’m not sure.

900W RMS amplifier you think will be good? Maybe 1,000 W RMS Amplifier?

Unless you have any ideas or advice to where I can fix my problem now and I don’t have to spend any money that would be awesome too!!

i like directed amps for the cash but everytime i write em on here i get a thumbs down???? they are great amps for bass.. i picked up a d1200 directed on ebay new for 130… they have a d600 for 108 brand new… now 600 watts for this amp is underrated if ya ask me… and people talk about 1000-2000 watt amps… now the db level between a 600 watt amp and a 1200 watt amp is only 3db.. which is barely noticable… to gain 3db you have to keep doubling your amplifier power…i saw a directed d2400 on ebay that just sold for 200 bucks… but that was used and i probbly wouldnt go that route myself but it is an option… the d600 on ebay has a subsonic filter at 30hz with a rolloff rate of 24 db which is good.. i personally dont boost the bass on the amp or head unit…it is stable to 2 ohms. if you can find a d1200 it is stable to 1 ohm… whatever ya go with get a class d that is stable to 1-2 ohms w/ a subsonic filter and stay away from all the garbage out there.also see what your voltage out on your head unit is.. if it is only 2volts than toss it and get a headunit that puts out 4volts… class d is the only way to go for subs.. oh yeah and dont skimp on the wiring kit…

Q&A: Is there any kind of external amplifier I can buy for my receiver?

Find The Lowest Price HERE

[BannerCampaign id=1]
Question by Julian D: Is there any kind of external amplifier I can buy for my receiver?
Hi. I have a 1000 WATT home theatre receiver with 5.1 speakers and a 8″ sub. and it doesn’t go to loud via optical audio or neither that loud at all. It mainly sounds “OK” from my usb memory stick with loaded songs on it straight from the receiver. The volume only goes to 42 MAX. The receiver is not really pushing the sub to much because I know it can create more THUMP. Is there any kind of external amplifier I can buy besides spending freakin $ 3000 on a Denon receiver witch has a good built in amp? Whenever I look up home theatre amps, I get receivers with amps. I don’t want that. I want a separate high wattage amp box where I can push my sub and turn that low volume receiver into a sensitive window flexing receiver. I also need one because I want to get a 18″ sub. Forget that Denon receiver amp shit! No thank you.
Ok. Thanx! Your the best “sofa king all 2 u”! I never knew a sub can have it’s own amp! So I guess I could go out and buy an 18″ sub with a built in amp even though my receiver amp is crap! Great. But that’s for the sub only. How do I get an amp to get the volume way louder through my A/V cables?
