That depends upon what you mean by “check.”
If you have an account with real time quotes, that will be the fastest, accurate information. Likewise, you can sign up for such services by PC or PDA or cell phone.
Online information at Finance!Yahoo as well as all the major brokerage sites and financial portals give accurate market quotes but they may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.

hi… some bnks or trading companies will allow you to set up WATCH LISTS .. the service is free and you have real time changes by clicking your mouse… try it… if your dad has shares ,,he already has the service.
April 24th, 2013 at 8:26 pmTelevision is a lousy way to check the stock market. The best way is online. What are you “checking”? If you are just trying to determine what the “markets” are doing (i.e., the Dow, NASDAQ or the S&P 500) you can go to Yahoo Finance. They give real-time stock market information on the home page. If you want to check the quotes for a particular stock, you can also do that on Yahoo Finance. On the upper left of the home page is a bar entitled “get quotes.” Type in the ticker symbol of the stock you want to check. You will get a real-time quote for the stock. The disadvantage of Yahoo Finance is that you have to know the ticker symbol. You might prefer Bloomberg.com. If you go to Bloomberg.com/markets/stocks, you can get all of the same information as on Yahoo Finance, and, if you don’t know the ticker symbol, you can find it with their “symbol lookup” function.
