Enough with “the Russians” already. This “Russian Disinformation” and “Russian Hacking” stuff is getting more ridiculous by the day.

First, don’t let the irony escape you that most, if not all, of the pundits breathlessly blaming the Russians for “fake news” and “election interference” are the very ones who were saying that Hillary Clinton was a shoe-in for president. They’re the ones who were providing her campaign with questions in advance, and allowing her people to approve/disapprove of articles.

Secondly, many of the entities blamed for spreading “Russian propaganda” were the ones with the audacity to tell the truth about the Clinton crime family and spread knowledge of the information released by Wikileaks. Obviously, I’m not including those Macedonian college kids in this, but keep in mind that they weren’t doing it for the Russians – they were doing it to make money.

This isn’t about the Russians at all, which anyone with half a brain realizes is absolutely ridiculous.

Here’s what this really is.

This is a war on the Trump presidency. It’s an attempted coup.

Maybe it’s even another effort to outright steal the presidency from Trump. Maybe there’s someone with a lot of money to throw into this “OMG THE RUSSIANS” rhetoric who really hates Russia and who really wanted Hillary Clinton to be the President. Maybe his name rhymes with “Doros.” I don’t know this for sure, but it’s at least a more likely story than “The Russians” hacking our election and deliberately spreading propaganda.

And it’s working. Ten of the Electoral College delegates have asked to be briefed on the Russian “interference” before they cast their votes on the 19th.

But that isn’t all. This is a two-for-one deal.

It’s important to note that the MSM lost every single bit of their remaining credibility during the last election and they’re desperate to get it back. It reminds me of a high school kid who gets caught doing something she shouldn’t, who then makes up stories about another group of kids to get people talking about them instead of her. The MSM can’t accept the fact that Hillary Clinton lost, despite their dishonest but enthusiastic efforts to steal the election for her. They’ll collude with whoever they have to in order to become relevant again.

Do you really have any doubt that they’ll collude with whoever they have to in order to become relevant again?

The whole plotline about “the Russians” really took off when the Washington Post published an article listing a couple hundred websites as Russian “fake news” sites. (I know the owners of quite a few of these sites personally -as in, we’ve shared meals and wine together – and I can tell you, they’re as American as apple pie.” The Washington Post later backtracked on the accusations but did not retract the article.

Donald Trump could have the election legally stolen from him on either December 19th when the Electoral College casts their votes or on January 6th when a joint session of Congress gathers to count those votes.  The establishment is in full-blown panic mode at this point, and they seem to have settled on “Russian interference in the election” as the angle that they plan to use to try to deny Trump the presidency.  As you will see below, there is an all-out effort to try to persuade members of the Electoral College that are supposed to be committed to Donald Trump to cast their votes for someone else instead.  And if that doesn’t work, the groundwork is being laid for the Electoral College votes to potentially be invalidated when a joint session of Congress meets to count those votes on January 6th.  I will explain how that would work later on in this article, but first let’s take a look at 14 signs that indicate that there is a plot to use Russia as an excuse to steal the presidency from Donald Trump…

#1 A group of 10 presidential electors has sent a letter to National Intelligence Director James Clapper asking to be briefed on Russian efforts to interfere in the election in November.  This group is being led by Nancy Pelosi’s daughter Christine.

#2 The Clinton campaign is publicly supporting the effort to arrange for the members of the Electoral College to be given an “intelligence briefing” on Russian interference in the election before they cast their votes.

#3 White House spokesman Josh Earnest claims that Donald Trump “called on Russia to hack his opponent” and that Trump “benefited from malicious Russian cyberactivity”.

#4 Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced that he supports an investigation into “Russian election interference”.

#5 On Sunday, U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer, Jack Reed, John McCain and Lindsey Graham announced that they very much desire to see an investigation into Russian interference in the election.

#6 U.S. Representative David Cicilline is urging electors to consider the “extent that foreign interference in the United States presidential elections may have influenced the final result” before they cast their votes.

#7 U.S. Representative Jim Himes is calling Donald Trump “a danger to the republic” and is publicly encouraging members of the Electoral College to vote for someone other than Donald Trump on December 19th.  I don’t recall any member of Congress ever suggesting members of the Electoral College do such a thing in any other election.

#8 Time Magazine is openly lobbying for members of the Electoral College to vote for someone other than Donald Trump on December 19th.

#9 The former acting director of the CIA has boldly proclaimed that Russian attempts to alter the outcome of the election in November were “the political equivalent of 9/11″.

Those who expected the mainstream media to pause and reflect on its own biases following President-Elect Donald Trump’s victory are surely disappointed.

It has become inescapably clear that rather than attempt to break free from the ideological echo chamber in which they exist, liberal journalists in the mainstream media are only doubling down on progressive propaganda — descending ever further into self-parody.

Enter Exhibit A above: an astonishing exchange between CNN's media analyst Brian Stelter and journalists Liz Wahl and Julia Ioffe that occurred on Sunday. In that one conversation, Wahl insisted Trump's win undermined “our democracy,” Ioffe expressed bewilderment at the fact that the people no longer take the mainstream media's word as sacrosanct, and Stelter implied that Trump's impending presidency is a national emergency.

“That is the ultimate goal [of Russian 'disinformation'], to undermine democracy, to undermine faith in our institutions, like the media,” Wahl told Stelter. “We have a president-elect now who has basically matched some of these key talking points in Russian propaganda to undermine our system.”

Of course, the primary cause Americans lost faith in the mainstream media is the outrageous behavior of the mainstream media itself — for example asserting that Donald Trump has “[undermined] our system” by parroting Russian propaganda.

“Let's go there. Let's go there directly,” Stelter said.

“I mean, here's something I've been asking myself. Julia, we're talking about a candidate who's lost in a historic way in terms of the popular vote but clearly won in the Electoral College. Is this something of a national emergency? And are journalists afraid to say so because they're going to sound partisan?” Stelter asked.

Stelter's comment is so absurd for a figure masquerading as an impartial journalist that a casual observer could be forgiven for thinking he was attempting to troll the audience. Either Stelter believes that the Electoral College's working in the precise manner in which it was designed is a national emergency, or he believes that the fact Trump was able to win despite the nonstop barrage of mainstream media propaganda is a national emergency.

The latter certainly appeared to be Ioffe's position. “I feel like we've been reporting on this all along but … people don't read us,” Ioffe noted before attacking “fake news” — progressives' hot new term for anything that challenges their approved ideological narrative. “We're writing about it but, A) people aren't listening and, B) they don't believe us.”

The SEC continued its crackdown against market-manipulating masterminds today, when it charged two New Jersey-based traders, 37-year-old Joseph Taub, of Clifton, and 21-year-old Elazar Shmalo of Passaic, with manipulating more than 2,000 NYSE and NASDAQ-traded stocks and reaping more than $26 million in profits from their successful trades.

The duo is accused by both the SEC and the NJ Attorney’s Office of manipulating more than 23,000 trades, buying and selling $10 billion worth of securities and making more than $26 million in illegal profits, usually through “two or more trading accounts that bought and sold the same lightly traded stock on the same day during the same period of time,” U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said in a statement.

In the complaint, the DOJ charges the two traders of engaging in “a scheme to place numerous buy and sell orders for specifically targeted, lightly traded securities in a coordinated fashion that allowed them to manipulate the price to their advantage. Over a period of years, they manipulated $10 billion worth of securities in this way, pocketing $26 million in illicit profits at the expense of other investors. The charges we filed today are part of our continuing effort to hold accountable those who would try to illegally tilt the playing field in their own favor.”

“The trading manipulations usually lasted just a few minutes each, during which time the conspirators sometimes controlled at least 80 percent of the volume of a targeted stock and traded in several accounts simultaneously,” Fishman said.

The SEC alleged that Taub and Shmalo “schemed dozens of times per trading day to artificially move stock prices for their personal benefit,” Andrew Calamari, director of the agency’s New York regional office said in a statement.

Taub and Shmalo were charged with one criminal count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud which carries a maximum potential penalty of five years in prison and a fine the greater of $250,000 or twice the gain derived from the offense or twice the loss caused by the offense. The two men are scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven C. Mannion in Newark federal court.

As Francine McKenna adds, the complaint filed against Taub and Shmalo by the U.S. Attorney says they looked for companies with low trading volumes and then entered numerous trades using “helper” accounts that signaled false information to the market, artificially inflating their prices. Later they sold the shares in “winner” accounts at the artificially inflated prices after accumulating positions at lower prices.

Taub and Shmalo, and additional unnamed conspirators, relied on pre-arranged and coordinated trading among dozens of brokerage accounts they controlled, according to the SEC and DOJ. Taub, according to the SEC and DOJ, was the ring leader, funding many of the accounts that were not in his name and using two companies he controlled , EAC Capital LLC and LNW Direct LLC, to make some of the trades. Even though Trump has said he won’t pursue a criminal investigation of Hillary’s email situation, her past demons just won’t seem to fade quietly into the night. One federal case that is still open was filed by the mothers of the Benghazi soldiers who claim Hillary intentionally lied to them to progress a convenient political narrative and subsequently attacked their character when that narrative was revealed to be completely fabricated. While Hillary has requested that the lawsuit be dropped, the Plaintiffs’ lawyers have blasted the request saying that it would be just another “special favor” to the “political elite.” Per WND:

Lawyers for twice-failed Oval Office aspirant Hillary Clinton have asked a federal court in Washington, D.C., to dismiss a lawsuit over her statements as secretary of state about the Benghazi terror attack that left four Americans dead.

The plaintiffs are arguing the case should to go trial because she doesn’t deserve special treatment as a member of the “political elite.”

“Plaintiffs respectfully request that the court rule on defendant Clinton’s motion in a politically neutral fashion, as defendant Clinton, like everyone else before the court, is not above the law,” the filing states.

“To treat her differently than others would be treated would create and perpetuate a terrible precedent, as the American people have come to believe that, in effect, there are two systems of justice; one for the political elite establishment, and one for the rest of the citizens of our nation.”

The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by lawyer Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch USA after the FBI determined Clinton’s handling of classified information through the use of a nonsecure, private email server was “extremely careless.” The lawsuit alleges that Hillary told the Plaintiffs one story about the attack, then told the media another story, and ended up calling the family members liars.

The case is based on claims by family members that when Clinton met with them at Joint Base Andrews, she told them the Benghazi attack was “a result of an Internet video criticizing the prophet Mohammad.”

But she later changed her story, and “negligently, recklessly, and/or maliciously defamed plaintiffs by either directly calling them liars, or by strongly implying that they are liars, in order to protect and enhance her public image and intimidate and emotionally harm and silence them to not speak up about the Benghazi attack.”

For example, the memo documents that in a 2015 interview with ABC News, she “flat out falsely denied telling the families of Benghazi victims that the YouTube video caused the attack.”

She told her daughter immediately that the attacks were acts of terrorism, but later told others they were sparked by the obscure video.

Following Friday’s report by RCB’s Charlie McElligott which sought to answer “THE” question every investor is asking, namely “what could derail this rally“, today’s the cross-asset strategist has released a follow up analysis in which he warns that even though the bond battering continues – and is likely to continue for a while – the market is now being set up for a “massive mean-reversion” counter-trend rally as soon as January.

His arguments why are presented below:

Big Picture: BOND BATTERING CONTINUES BUT SET-UP FOR JANUARY COUNTER-TREND REVERSAL

Bonds further ‘wearing it’ on multiple-fronts this morning (monster TY put block overnight, likely hedging against MTM losses being accumulated–H/T Alex Redhead) as once again, the 5+ year rates trader playbook is torn-up with weakness during the Asian session overnight—five points I’m highlighting:

1. Crude oil is +5% (highest levels in 17 months) after further Saudi commitment to cut output following the non-OPEC states agreement this weekend to do the same. RBC’s Chief Commodities Strategist Helima Croft is calling this “OPEC’s ‘whatever it takes’ moment,” and global developed market inflation expectations are again being ‘reset’ higher;
2. Front-loaded UST issuance calendar this week ahead of Fed, with 3Y and 10Y auctions Monday and 30Y on Tuesday;
3. Nikkei press report that 2017 BoJ issuance will set a new record, specifically highlighting plans to issue Y3T of 40Y JGBs against a reduction of sales in the front-end / belly. Accordingly, we see JGB 2s30s and 5s30s curves making new nine-month steeps;
4. Western financial press reports noting that the BoJ may have to reduce asset purchases by as much as 10% in light of the move already seen in US rates / the impact this is having on JGBs (FWIW, our Japan USD rates team is pointing out that no local press is talking about this tapering story—as such, we continue with status quo of the ‘policy divergence’ trade, as the Yen drop to new 10 month lows against the USD overnight);
5. ‘Unwillingness’ to catch the falling knife from overseas real money investors (who have been “the” bid in USTs for years), voicing a preference to wait until 2017 to target ‘more attractive’ entry points for longs. This comes with domestic real money funds already being sellers as they work to shed duration. The sense is that leveraged funds will continue to press shorts on this trade which has been exceptionally profitable thus far. As such, the rates move to the upside could be magnified even further into certain illiquid year end conditions with dealer balance sheet / financing constraints.

The danger for risk assets of course is a ‘disorderly’ rates move, as noted in Friday’s “Big Picture” as one of the chief concerns with regards to potential disruptors of the “reflation trade.” VaR stress -induced deleveraging has repeatedly ‘spilled-over’ into other asset classes in every ‘taper-tantrum’ episode we’ve witnessed since ’13, especially on account of the proliferation of “short convexity”/“short correlation” strategies which have grown massively popular with the asset liability management community in …read more
