- Students at George Washington University, site of a recent walkout to demand a “sanctuary campus” to protect illegal immigrant students, say they favor defiance of other federal laws, too.
- Several students said they would like to make the campus a “sanctuary” from student loan debt, while others favored exemptions from underage drinking laws.
- Some students even felt they should be given a pass on final exams due to the stress of the election, explaining that “it’s really hard to focus on your studies when there’s so much else going on.”
Students across the country are asking for their schools to be “sanctuary campuses” for undocumented students, meaning university administrators would ignore federal immigration law and refuse to share information about undocumented students with immigration officials.
Several schools have already declared themselves sanctuary campuses, including Portland State University, Reed College, and Columbia University.
To find out more about what motivates students to support the sanctuary campus movement, Campus Reform visited George Washington University, where many students participated in a pro-sanctuary walk-out several weeks ago.
The students interviewed were overwhelmingly in favor of GW becoming a sanctuary campus, calling it a “great thing,” and claiming that undocumented students “have a right to be going to this school” because “it’s really important for students to feel safe while they’re going to school.”
Since the GW students were asking their administration to ignore federal law, Campus Reform asked if they wanted the campus to be a “sanctuary” from other laws, as well.
“What about a sanctuary campus where student loan laws don’t affect you here?” Campus Reform asked.
“Oh, absolutely,” responded one student, while another agreed, saying, “Yes, that’d be cool.”
Students were also on board with making GW a sanctuary campus from underage drinking laws, because students “would feel safer” if they could drink and go to parties without breaking the law.
“I do agree with that one,” declared one student.
“Yeah, I think it [campus] should be a safe space for everybody,” replied another, explaining, “I don’t think anybody should be judged.”
Some students even went so far as to say that campus should be a safe space from final exams, given recent stress from the 2016 election.
“School’s been really stressful especially after the Trump election,” one student vented. “Like, it’s really hard to focus on your studies when there’s so much else going on.”
Throughout the day, Campus Reform spoke with just one student who refused to support the idea of ignoring federal laws on campus.
“I don’t believe in harboring criminals,” the student, who said he voted for Donald Trump, told Campus Reform. “I think, it’s against the law, we have to enforce federal law where it stands.”

As we reported last night, the “Pizzagate” scandal took a turn for the bizarre, when a man with an assault rifle walked into the Comet Ping Pong restaurant on Sunday afternoon to “self-investigate” the popular Washington pizza parlor owned by James Alefantis that has been accused of being an international child sex ring run by prominent Democrats, following the release of Podesta emails. 28-year-old Edgar Maddison Welch, of Salisbury, N.C., fired the rifle at least once inside the restaurant but no one was injured, before he turned himself in.
On Monday, the police released the criminal complaint against Welch, in which he admitted that he was motivated by the numerous online reports about a suspected child trafficking ring allegedly operating out of the restaurant and run by top Democrats, including Mrs. Clinton and her campaign chairman, John D. Podesta.
Welch said in an arraignment released on Monday that he had read online that the Comet Ping Pong restaurant in Northwest Washington was “harboring child sex slaves, and he wanted to see for himself if they were there,” according to court documents. He said he was armed to help rescue children but surrendered peacefully “when he found no evidence that underage children were being harbored in the restaurant.”
Welch was charged with four counts, including felony assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a gun without a license outside a home or business. Wearing a white jumpsuit and shackles, Welch told the judge his name and stood silently as he was advised of his rights. The judge ordered him to remain in custody.
Welch, 28, of Salisbury, N.C., fired from an assault-like AR-15 rifle. The police had found two weapons in the restaurant, and one in the suspect’s car. No one was hurt.

Will this arrest mute the relentless online allegations of a pedophile ring run out of the pizza store, and which allegedly implicates some of the top democrats in the country? Somehow we doubt it.

Donald Trump has already lost one of his electoral votes, and there are indications that a number of additional electors may be prepared to abandon him. Prior to the election, I warned my readers that we would not officially know who the next president would be until December 19th. On that Monday, the 538 members of the Electoral College will gather in their state capitals in all 50 states to formally elect the next president. Throughout U.S. history electors have voted according to the will of the people more than 99 percent of the time, but in 2016 there is a concerted effort to persuade Republican electors not to vote for Trump. If 37 Republican electors can be convinced to vote for someone other than Trump, that would keep Trump under the 270 vote threshold needed to win and it would throw the election into the House of Representatives. Most people had considered this to be a longshot, but on Monday a Republican elector named Christopher Suprun publicly announced in the New York Times that he will not cast his vote for Donald Trump. On the other side, there are at least 8 Democratic electors that have already publicly pledged to switch their votes from Hillary Clinton to a compromise Republican alternative to Trump.
So we already know that there will be quite a few “faithless electors” on December 19th. The question will be whether or not they are able to rally enough electors to their cause to deny Donald Trump the presidency.
What Christopher Suprun has chosen to do is really unprecedented in the history of modern American politics. Not only has he publicly announced that he is not voting for Trump, he is also attempting to convince other Republican electors to join him. He explained his reasoning for this move in his editorial for the New York Times…
Fifteen years ago, as a firefighter, I was part of the response to the Sept. 11 attacks against our nation. That attack and this year’s election may seem unrelated, but for me the relationship becomes clearer every day.
George W. Bush is an imperfect man, but he led us through the tragic days following the attacks. His leadership showed that America was a great nation. That was also the last time I remember the nation united. I watch Mr. Trump fail to unite America and drive a wedge between us.
Mr. Trump goes out of his way to attack the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for bias. He tweets day and night, but waited two days to offer sympathy to the Ohio State community after an attack there. He does not encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage.
Of course this movement started long before Suprun made his surprise announcement. A group of eight Democratic “Hamilton electors” have been lobbying for Republican electors to reject Trump and join them in agreeing on a compromise Republican alternative for quite some time. And according to Politico, those associated with this

At first, I thought they were apron loafers or even tassel. But upon further inspection, it looks like Dennis Gartman appeared on CNBC this evening entirely sockless in penny loafers, made from cordovan leather. “Damn straight I did.”
The loafer was introduced into American shoe cannon in the 1930’s, first called the ‘Aurland moccasin’. By the 1950’s, they were a significant part of stylish Anglican shoewear, specific to the northeast — and are commonly worn by fuckheads today in places like Nantucket and Martha’s Vinyard. Mr. Gartman made what some might call a ‘faux pas’ — also known as a tactless display of fashion ignorance by sporting summer shoes in 40 degree NYC weather. Notice how uncomfortable the Fast Money crew is around Dennis? Who could blame them?
A closer look at Gartman’s shoes.
His entire left leg is practically exposed here, due to a poor off the rack pair of slacks, coupled with feet, which are astonishingly bereft of socks.
At one point during the interview, whilst discussing crude oil and how Dennis thinks $52 is the top, Tim Seymour appears visibly shaken by Dennis’ shoes.
As you can see with this angle, his entire foot is hanging out of the shoe. Un-fucking-believable.
Here is the video of Dennis’ fashion faux pas, as well as meaningless banter about OPEC being dishonest and oil topping out at $52 — because of contango and other horseshit important to his incorrect way of thinking.

A Republican member of the Electoral College, Christopher Suprun, has published an op-ed in the NYT explaining on Monday explaining why he will not be casting his vote for Donald Trump.
“The election of the next president is not yet a done deal,” Texas elector Suprun writes the New York Times article. “Electors of conscience can still do the right thing for the good of the country. Presidential electors have the legal right and a constitutional duty to vote their conscience.”
If Suprun follows through on his promise next month, he would become the first “faithless elector” since 2004.
“Trump lacks the foreign policy experience and demeanor needed to be commander in chief”, writes Suprun, taking particular issue with the president-elect’s pick of retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn as his national security adviser. Trump’s business dealings might pose unacceptable conflicts of interest, Suprun adds — a problem that could seem him “impeached in his first year given his dismissive responses.”
The Electoral College is constitutionally required to convene before the results of the Nov. 8 presidential election are official. Usually these gatherings amount to nothing more than a rubber stamp, but this year electors have threatened to flee in record numbers. Twenty-six states, a group that does not include Texas, bind their electors to select the winner of the popular vote.

His full op-ed is below:
I am a Republican presidential elector, one of the 538 people asked to choose officially the president of the United States. Since the election, people have asked me to change my vote based on policy disagreements with Donald J. Trump. In some cases, they cite the popular vote difference. I do not think president-elects should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead of the popular vote. However, now I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office.

This is unacceptable. For me, America is that shining city on a hill that Ronald Reagan envisioned. It has problems. It has challenges. These can be met and overcome just as

Only one thing for today really…
You have to wonder “who” stepped in at the European open and panic-bid with both hands and feet for Euros and US and EU equities…? As one trader mocked earlier, Brexit took 3 days to recover its losses, Trump took 3 hours, and Italeave took 3 minutes…
EURUSD ripped 300 pips from overnight lows…
Notably, European stocks did fade…but even Italian stocks (ex banks) only dropped a little

And of course, the reach for safe-havens such as bonds and bullion was an utter waste of time…

Someone even panic bid Italian banks at the open!!!

On the day, US Equities rallied with The Dow at another record high… Small Caps exploded in a short squeeze for their best day in 3 weeks!

Massive shorrt squeeze at the open…

But The Market BROKE 3 Times…
- FIRST – 0950ET: *NASDAQ HAS DECLARED SELF HELP AGAINST CHICAGO STOCK EXCHANGE
- SECOND – 1316ET:*BATS OPTIONS: BATS EDGX OPTIONS EXCHANGE HAS DECLARED SELF-HELP
- THIRD – 1448ET:*NASDAQ HAS DECLARED SELF HELP VS CHICAGO STOCK EXCHANGE

Bonds & Stocks followed one another broadly today…

Because why wouldn't you buy bank stocks – when the Italian banking system faces collapse with no backstop? (And oil stocks were up despite oil ending the day really ugly)

Bank stocks surged again (but credit crumbled)…

The long-end closed lower in yields (barely) as the short-end sold off in a turbulent day for bonds…

The yield curve flattened but bank stocks were bid…

The USD was notably weaker today led by EUR strength…

But we note that Yuan has now rallied for 8 straight days, recoupling with TSYs post-Election…

Crude prices jumped again to new cycle highs…

But…all those gains were puked after the NYMEX close…

Following the biggest USO (Oil ETF) fund outflow in 7 years on Friday (as investors “bail out” following the commodity curve's inversion)…

Finally we leave you with this…from Rhino Trading's Michael Block who offers the following perspecitve on why European stocks spiked the most since the Trump victory last month (largley a black swan event), courtesy of Barron's:
…[Apparently] the pattern of fading a potential crisis and then scrambling to cover and get long when everyone takes a breath and realizes that this time is
