With different subs it is hard to tell. Also depends on the money you want to spend. JL, Kenwood, MTX all make pretty good amps but they cost a lot of money usually. You can also check, DUAL, Power Acoustik, Pyle and those smaller company. Keep in mind ohms and watts but also maybe check with the sub manufacture and see if they have any suggestions. Remember your box as well will play a big role.

Question by Hijax: What is the best amp head and cab for an electric guitar under 00?
I need to upgrade my amp from a little 30 watt Randall, so I figured that I should just get a half stack. My main instrument is a Paul Reed Smith SE Paul Allender. I want a half stack that sounds similar distortion-wise to alternative and punk. I also need it to be loud for playing at small to medium-sized gigs. Whether it is a tube amp or not doesn’t matter.

A great amp head is the Marshall JCM 100 watt tube head. A awesome cab for it is the Marshall 1960 4×12 cab. they are usually available for less that $ 1000 for the head and $ 800 for the head. I have played them and the sound very good, probably the best sounding amp i have ever played on.

Well, if you haven’t heard, North Dakota is in national disaster at a federal level (officially declared by Obama), and our family has decided that it’s time to get a generator, just in case. At our Fleet Farm they have three – a 3500, 5500, and 6200 watt. We live in about a 4000 sq. ft. home, if that matters. Price kind of is an issue, but we can always take it back if we end up not using it. Which one would you recommend getting? Thanks so much!

You need at least 5,000 watts just for an electric hot water heater.

You need about 5,000 watts for an electric range.

You need about 5,000 watts for an electric heat pump, 15,000 watts if emergency heat kicks in.

Most of the rest can be done with a 3,500 watt generator, if you are frugal about power.

You can always find something more expensive, but this unit has more than enough power to run this your sub, plus as you read through description, you will find other features that make it a good choice

Get an Alpine 4-channel amp for your mids. I recommend the MRV-F345 or MRP-F450. You should also get yourself a different deck. Sell your Sony to a friend or something. I like the Pioneer Premier decks such as the DEH-P590IB. Alpine also makes really good decks. They just don’t have as many features as the Pioneers. As far as upgrading your mids, I like the Pioneer REV series or Alpine type-R’s. If neither of these will fit, than try the Alpine type-S’. Prefab subwoofer boxes are available for your Jeep with two down-firing woofers. As far as subs and an amp, I recommend Rockford. If you don’t want too much bass, than get a pair of P210’s or P212’s with a P325.2 or P450.2 amp.

Question by Kristan: Continuous light soft boxes, what would be best for me?
I am new to photography and am going to be starting a college for photography next month. In the meantime I would really like to set up a “studio”. I would like to put up a background stand and buy some backdrops. I wanted to get a continuous light softbox in the meantime, and eventually buy a softbox with flash after I have learned enough about it in school. I was looking online and saw two different options and wondered what would be best for me. I also don’t understand what amount of wattage bulb I should be looking for, my “studio” has quite a bit of natural light due to a large window, so that may make a difference.

The first softbox I was looking at was 50×70 cm with an 85 watt bulb, however that doesnt sound like enough light to me.

And the other was a 20 x 28 inch softbox, with a 1000 watt bulb

Also, I have a fear that since these are so low priced that they may be cheap and cause a fire hazard as the lights get hot.

Could anyone recomment what size of softbox I should get (for infant portraits) and what amount of wattage bulb I should be looking for considering the natural light in my studio area. I would take this advice and go to a photography supply store near my home looking for a softbox with that kind of wattage. Obviously you need to buy a softbox that can handle a really hot light so that you don’t start a fire. So if I knew what amount of light I would need I could go from there.

You are correct that the 85 watt one would be to low a wattage. It is probably made for taking pictures of small things for Ebay and the like.

For the price, the 1000 watt s box isn’t bad, but yes, quartz lights do generate lots of heat. On the up side, what you see is what you get.

Most strobes incorporate incandescent, “modeling lights”, that provide enough light to see what your trying to shoot, but don’t allow you too use anything but manual settings, as when the much more powerful strobe goes off, it changes your white balance, and usually washes out your picture.

So until you become familiar with how to manually set your exposures, for the price, the 20 x 28 soft box might work well for you. Just don’t leave it on for extended lengths of time.

well to really answer this question the best you should have posted the brand names for all these amps. i only saw the brand on the first one. obviously though looking at the specs the bottom one will be the loudest cause it puts out 500 watts rms. but jl audio is a good brand. so the first amp will prob be pretty nice. if the 500 watt rms amp is a crappy amp brand then it might not even put out a true 500 watts. so it all depends on brands. if the bigger one though is a good brand go for it. some names of good brands are jl audio, kicker, rockford fosgate, jbl, or mtx any of those are names to look out for
