(2) Anthem Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Cincinnati, OH, gives insurance plan participants extra benefits, such as additional vacation days, if they get good scores in five out of seven health-related categories.
(3) The University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Nursing has a health-and-wellness application that counsels employees how to get into shape.
One player in the UAB program says “It seems like they are trying to control us, but then, on the other hand, I realize of folks who found out they had top blood pressure or were borderline diabetics and didn’t know it.”
Ideas such as well being insurance premium discounts for people who workout regularly and remain healthy, assigning “fat taxes” to high-fat and high-sugar foods, charging more for health insurance for people who engage in unhealthy lifestyles (they smoke, drink or eat excessively, do not exercise, etc.) have all surfaced and become section of the national discussion.
